• The Banyan tree

I am the Banyan tree; a peculiar and mysterious tree with roots hanging from my branches. Ever heard of that?

My family originates from the ficus species. I have green strong leaves and hairlike threads overhanging from my branches. These threads become roots and can grow into new trunks when they touch the ground or interlock with branches, making me expand in size if the hanging roots are not maintained.

My life can be dramatic. Sometimes the new  born stalks can cause the old tree trunk to suffocate and die, leaving a hollow space in the middle.

In some cultures, I am venerated as a sacred tree. For instance in India, married women tie a thread around my trunk during the “Vat Savitri” festival. I am also known as the national tree of India.

    …..

This is my painting of the Banyan tree done in 2018. The aerial roots were delicately painted to show the interwoven threads. I wanted to depict the connection between the earth and the spiritual realm, with the light coming from the bottom and moving to the crown chakra.

Years later, little did I know that my new office would be called the Banyan House with a beautiful Banyan Tree gracing the entrance☺️

    Mysteriously yours

  • I had asked myself this question numerous times “what is my purpose here on earth?”

The answer was not always crystal clear but I knew that I wanted to live with purpose and contribute to something positive in the world. I wanted a meaningful life, something bigger than myself.

Along life’s journey, our priorities change; what started as a passionate project twenty years ago during my undergraduate days faded over time while working in the corporate world.

The seeds were planted but were hidden in the dark. In 2019, I decided to quit my corporate job to become an entrepreneur and founded “My Treehouse”. I wanted to work for a cause. I will tell more about this journey in future posts.

I knew for sure that my purpose was to raise awareness about protecting our beautiful natural environment. I wanted to work for Mother Earth as she is the one sustaining us everyday.

Art and Nature are two topics I am passionate about and I have created this blog as a space to share my love for Mother Earth with the hope that it can inspire and help others to preserve her natural beauty.

Let’s grow together on this journey.

    With love and light

    Keshtree

P.S I do really have a “tree” in my name🌳
